LSU President: No Chance of Moving Medical School to Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, La.

The chief of the LSU System says he has no interest in moving the university’s medical school in New Orleans to Baton Rouge.

After Hurricane Katrina, some state officials suggested that the university medical school, whose facilities flooded after the 2005 storm, should be restarted in Baton Rouge. But LSU System President John Lombardi said Monday that won’t happen.

Lombardi told the Press Club of Baton Rouge that moving any university facility from one city to another is a bad idea, both educationally and politically.

LSU operates two medical schools in the state: one in New Orleans and another in Shreveport.
