Columbus State University Student Arrested for Bomb Threats

COLUMBUS Ga.

A Columbus State University student has been arrested for making bomb threats against the school and having guns in his pickup truck.

One of the bomb threats prompted the evacuation of an office building at the school Friday, university police said.

Lawrence E. Price, 45, of Phenix City, Ala., was arrested Monday and charged with five counts of making terroristic threats and one count each of carrying a weapon to school, possession of a firearm in commission of a crime and obstruction of a police officer. Police found several guns in Price’s pickup truck when he was arrested in a university parking lot.

Bomb threats were called in to the university twice in the last two weeks, university police said.

University police found the location from where the calls were made and, during an undercover operation Monday, identified the suspect after a call indicating the presence of a bomb at the school was made to the Columbus Police Department and to the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer.

Price was arrested after police verified the call and its location.

In Price’s pickup truck, officers found two rifles, a shotgun, a small handgun, a compound bow, three bottles of alcohol and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.

A bomb squad dog checked Price and his truck but found no indication of explosives.
