Professional Appointments

Wardell G. Baker has been promoted to associate vice president for student affairs at Virginia State University in Petersburg.
Previously, he was director of residence life at the university. Baker earned both a bachelor's in agronomy and a master's in education from Virginia State University.

Genevieve Brembry, executive director of the Texas Association of Developing Colleges, has been appointed president of the National Association for Consortium Leadership. Brembry earned a bachelor's degree in textiles and clothing from Southern University, a master's in education from the University of North Texas and a master's in business administration from Amber University.

Dr. Wayne Thomas Harris has been named  dean of the College of Pharmacy at Xavier University of Louisiana. Harris is currently professor and chairman of the department of pharmaceutical sciences at Hampton University. He holds a bachelor's in pharmacy from Mercer University's School of Pharmacy; and a master's and doctorate in medicinal chemistry from the University of Kansas.
Cedric Merlin Powell has been named associate dean for academic affairs at the University of Louisville in Kentucky. Powell joined the faculty of the School of Law in 1993. Powell earned a bachelor's with honors in government from Oberlin College and a juris doctorate from New York University School of Law.


Leon L. Scott, vice president for business affairs and treasurer at Hampton University for the past eight years, has been named president of Consolidated Bank and Trust Co., a Black-owned bank headquartered in Richmond, Va. Scott received a bachelor's in business administration from Howard University and a master's in business administration from Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Mo.

Dr. Michael Toney is now associate vice president for enrollment programs at National-Louis University in Chicago. He was executive director of enrollment services at Governors State University. He earned a bachelor's in political science from the University of Illinois, a master's in education from Northeastern Illinois University and a doctorate in educational administration from Roosevelt University.
