WKU Fraternity Suspended for Hazing, Animal Cruelty Reinstated

by Associated Press , November 21, 2007

BOWLING GREEN Ky.

A fraternity at Western Kentucky University suspended for hazing and mistreating a goat has been reinstated.

Alpha Gamma Rho was suspended by university officials after allegations of underage drinking and animal cruelty when a goat was found in the basement.

The fraternity was reinstated on Nov. 7, about 15 months before a three-year suspension was to end.

The fraternity had to meet a list of requirements before the university would consider reinstating the fraternity, said Howard Bailey, associate vice president of student affairs and development. Bailey said the fraternity would remain on probation for the remainder of the time that it was supposed to be suspended.

According to a police report, the goat had no food or water and was found in a storage room where it had no room to walk around.

A university investigation found no signs of forced alcohol consumption.

One student, Trenton Dakota Jackson, 20, of Henderson, pleaded guilty to second-degree cruelty to animals and received community service.

Fraternity members could not be reached for comment.
