Feds Repeat Criticisms of EMU Cover-up of Student’s Rape-killing

YPSILANTI Mich.

The U.S. Education Department has repeated its criticism of Eastern Michigan University for covering up the rape-killing of a student in her dorm room.

The Ann Arbor News and The Detroit News say the agency acknowledges Eastern Michigan has moved to prevent a repeat of the secrecy surrounding the December killing of 22-year-old Laura Dickinson. The school failed to alert students and her parents the death was a homicide.

Federal officials are considering multiple $27,500 fines against Eastern.

The case led to the ouster of university President John Fallon, Vice President Jim Vick and safety Director Cindy Hall.

Twenty-one-year-old Orange Taylor III faces a second murder trial after his first jury deadlocked.
