Universities Continue to Spend Big on Head Football Coaches

With the college football season coming to a close with the BCS National Championship, Diverse took a look at 17 universities that recently hired new head coaches and compared their salaries to the former head coaches. Black players make up approximately 55 percent of the football players in the Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly Division I-A). Kevin Sumlin, the newly hired head coach for the University of Houston is the only Black to have been chosen as a head coach since the changes started in early December. Navy head coach Ken Niumatalolo, a Samoan, is the only other coach of color.
