A Chat With Texas A&M President Dr. Elsa Murano

Diverse’s Michelle Nealy speaks with Dr. Elsa Murano, the newly appointed president of Texas A&M University. She is the first woman and first Hispanic to serve as president of the oldest public university of higher learning and the sixth largest university in the nation. No stranger to “firsts,” Dr. Murano, 48, was the first Hispanic and first woman to be named the vice chancellor and dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M when hired in 2005. Prior to that, she was the first Hispanic to serve as undersecretary for food safety at the U. S. Department of Agriculture, a position she held from 2001 to 2004.
