Search Firm Struggles to Fill Provost Position at Del. State

DOVER, Del.

A search firm is having trouble filling the vacant position of provost at Delaware State University.

The (Wilmington) News Journal has obtained a confidential report by the firm, Florida-based Greenwood and Associates. The report says the firm made overtures about the job to more than 200 people, many of whom work at large state research institutions and well-regarded historically Black colleges.

The report says when potential candidates start asking friends and colleagues about Delaware State, they get a negative impression of the administration and the campus environment. It says they view the environment at DSU as “toxic.”

Interim provost Kenneth Bell is set to retire this summer.
