HARTFORD Conn.
A report says while minorities in Connecticut make up nearly 23 percent of people enrolled in higher education, fewer are at the University of Connecticut.
The report says the majority of Black and Hispanic students are enrolled at community and technical colleges, while the proportion of Black and Hispanic students at the University of Connecticut lags.
The report, presented to the Board of Governors for Higher Education, says Hispanics remain underrepresented in higher education. They make up 9.5 percent of the state's population but only 8.1 percent of the state's higher education population.
Higher Education Commissioner Michael Meotti calls the overall enrollment rates among Black students good news, but he says more work must be done to recruit Hispanic students.
