Clark Atlanta University received $1 million from The Goizueta Foundation to establish and endow The Goizueta Foundation Scholars Fund for Teacher Preparation.

Grambling University in Louisiana received $40,000 from Dr. Lucy
McIntosh, professor of sociology emeritus, toward creating the William
McIntosh Endowed Professorship. The professorship is in honor of her late husband, Dr. William J. McIntosh, the former dean and professor emeritus of the university's College of Liberal Arts.

New York City Technical College in Brooklyn received a $1.8 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The college will use the grant to train faculty in multi-media instruction and to establish a new Freshman
Services Center.

North Carolina A&T State University's (Greensboro) department of
sociology and social work received a $100,000 grant from the Office of Community Services in the U.S. Department of Health and Human
Services to continue its domestic violence internship project.

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y., received an anonymous $130 million pledge to construct a biotechnology research building and an electronic media and performing arts center.

University of Georgia (Athens) professors in the College of Family and Consumer Sciences received two grants totaling $6 million to develop HIV-AIDS prevention programs for adolescents. One grant from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism will help develop a multicomponent prevention program to decrease alcohol and other substance use by African American children living in rural Georgia. A $3.2 million grant from the National Institutes of Mental Health will help develop a program designed to decrease young African Americans' risk for HIV-AIDS.

The University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia received an $25 million endowment from the Annenberg Foundation to establish a new Institute for Adolescent Risk Communication at the university's Annenberg Public Policy Center.
