CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY CHANNEL ISLANDS’ OSHER LIFELONG LEARNING INSTITUTE has received a $1 MILLION endowment from the Bernard Osher Foundation.

EASTERN NEW MEXICO UNIVERSITY has received a $5,000 gift from Xcel Energy, an electricity and natural gas company, for the university’s Alliance for Minority Participation program. The AMP program provides students of color with scholarships and undergraduate research assistantships for science, engineering and mathematics majors.

FLORIDA A&M UNIVERSITY has received $500,000 worth of engineering equipment from the communications services company Embarq. Specifically, the university’s College of Engineering Sciences, Technology and Agriculture received more than 100 pieces of equipment.

INDIANA UNIVERSITY has received a $100,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Defense to provide language and culture training through its Center for Languages of the Central Asian Region to 70 senior military officials who will command and participate in 12 reconstruction teams in Afghanistan.

PRAIRIE VIEW A&M UNIVERSITY (Texas) has been awarded a $100,000 grant from the Tom Joyner Foundation and the National Education Association to help increase the number of fully certified teachers in minority schools.

SAN DIEGO STATE UNIVERSITY has received a $10 MILLION gift from Gertrude Lamden, the wife of a former dean, for its School of Accountancy. Lamden made the donation in honor of her late husband Charles W. Lamden, who was the first dean of the College of Business Administration at SDSU.

SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY (La.) has received a $10 MILLION grant from the Lamar Ellis Foundation for its Timbuktu Academy to produce young Black physicists and engineers.
