ALABAMA A&M UNIVERSITY has received a $700,000 grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development to help develop local communities.

The CITY UNIVERSITY OF NEW YORK has received a three-year, $459,108 grant from the National Science Foundation for the New York City College of Technology. State-ofthe- art satellite and ground-based remote sensing research will be bolstered by this grant. Researchers will seek to improve the predictability of natural disasters.

FLORIDA ATLANTIC UNIVERSITY has received a gift of $1.5 MILLION from Living Room Theaters, Inc. to fund a state-of-the-art movie theater complex at the Boca Raton campus. The funds are eligible to be matched with the state’s Alec P. Courtelis Capital Facility Enhancement Challenge Grant Program. FAU students and community patrons will be able to use the facilities.

INDIANA UNIVERSITY’S CENTER FOR CHINESE LANGUAGE PEDAGOGY has received a $1 MILLION grant from The Language Flagship, an initiative of the National Security Education Program in the U.S. Department of Defense.

NORTH CAROLINA A&T STATE UNIVERSITY has received a $500,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special Education and Rehabilitation for the university’s Department of Curriculum and Instruction.

SAN DIEGO STATE UNIVERSITY has received a $1 MILLION donation from Christopher and Karen Sickels to support the university’s children’s literature collection at its National Center for the Study of Children’s Literature. It will be the SDSU library’s largest single endowment.

SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY AND A&M COLLEGE has received a $700,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for the Southern University- Partners Creating Opportunities (SU-PCO) project. The project works to provide housing to low- to moderate-income individuals, entrepreneurship training and infrastructure development to communities.

THE UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS AT CHICAGO has received a $10 MILLION gift from the late Romuald Hejna for its Polish history, language and literature courses. The gift is the single largest the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences has ever received.

THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH FLORIDA has been awarded a $50,000 GRANT by The Bernard Osher Foundation for scholarships for fulland part-time, nontraditional reentry students. The funds will be used to help adult learners finish their bachelor’s degrees.

YALE UNIVERSITY (Conn.) has received an $11 MILLION grant from the National Institute of Mental Health to support the university’s Center for Interdisciplinary Research on AIDS. The funds will go toward HIV prevention and health services research.
