ALABAMA STATE UNIVERSITY has received $5 MILLION from the Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee for its Department of Biological Sciences. The funds will help build ASU’s new life sciences building, which will house the university’s new doctoral program in microbiology.

CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, DOMINGUEZ HILLS, has received a $750,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to encourage math and science majors in college to become middle- and high-school teachers. Over the next five years the funds will provide upperclassmen with scholarships.

COPPIN STATE UNIVERSITY (Md.) has received a $ 140,000 grant from the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency to prepare students to be intelligence analysts. Through the grant Coppin State will develop a new undergraduate program.

CORNELL UNIVERSITY (N.Y.) has received a $35 MILLION gift from trustee Andrew H. Tisch and his wife, Ann, to establish the Tisch University Professorships. The funds will allow the university to retain current faculty members and recruit new scholars.

THE DES MOINES AREA COMMUNITY COLLEGE (Iowa) has received $1.6 MILLION from the Department of Justice to establish an Electronic Crime Institute. The new program will provide digital forensics training and technology to investigate crimes such as identity theft.

LAWRENCE UNIVERSITY (Wis.) has received a $1.6 MILLION donation from the estate of F. Stansbury Young to support student scholarships.

OHIO DOMINICAN UNIVERSITY has received a five-year, $2 MILLION federal grant through the U.S. Department of Education for the university to expand its services to lowincome students.

SPELMAN COLLEGE (Ga.) has received a $1 MILLION grant from the Ford Foundation to assist the Spelman College Women’s Research and Resource Center in its work. The center focuses on educating Black women and addressing issues of race and gender.
