Professional Appointments

DR. PETER GITAU is associate vice chancellor and dean of students at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. Gitau formerly served as dean of student life at the University of Dubuque. He holds a bachelor’s from Kenyatta University in Nairobi, Kenya, a master’s from Eastern Illinois University and a doctorate from the University of Kansas.

JUDY HINRICHS has been appointed dean of the Albright School of Education at the City University of Seattle. She previously served as the interim dean of the school. Hinrichs holds a bachelor’s from Western Washington University and a master’s from the University of Washington.

ERIKA MATTHEWS-JACKSON is assistant dean of admissions at Wayne State University Law School (Mich.). Matthews-Jackson previously served as a senior major gift officer at the University of Michigan. She earned a bachelor’s from the University of Michigan and a law degree from WSU.

DR. LAURA PALMER NOONE has been named chief executive officer for Nouveau University. She formerly served as president of the University of Phoenix. Noone earned a bachelor’s from the University of Dubuque in Iowa, an MBA and law degree from the University of Iowa, and a doctorate from the Union Institute & University in Ohio.

DR. MANUEL PÉREZ-QUIÑONES is the new associate dean in residence and director for the office of diversity programs in the Virginia Tech Graduate School. He earned a bachelor’s and master’s from Ball State University and a doctorate from The George Washington University.

DR. KARL REID is senior vice president of academic programs and strategic initiatives at the United Negro College Fund (Va.). Reid previously served as associate dean of undergraduate education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Reid earned a bachelor’s and master’s from MIT and a doctorate from Harvard University.
