The UNIVERSITY OF DENVER’s Morgridge College of Education has received a $10 MILLION gift from James (Jim) Cox Kennedy to establish the James C. Kennedy Institute for Educational Success. The funds will endow three faculty chairs and program/research endowment in the college.

The Kremen School of Education and Human Development at the UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, FRESNO, has received a $5,000 grant from Dr. Walter Buster, director of the Central Valley Education Institute at CSUF, to provide professional and educational leadership training in the central San Joaquin Valley through the institute. The funds come from an award Buster won through the Association of California School Administrators.

RUTGERS UNIVERSITY’s Institute for Food, Nutrition and Health at the Cook Campus (N.J.) has received a $10 MILLION grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to study the causes of obesity in the New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia areas.

The College of Engineering at the UNIVERSITY OF IOWA has received a three-year, $899,391 National Science Foundation grant to improve water pollution monitoring.

The UNIVERSITY OF NEW HAVEN has received a $135,276 grant from the Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology to fund research on Long Island Sound algae as a fuel source.

The UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH Cancer Institute has received a two-year, $300,000 grant from the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation to develop biomarkers that will help identify which forms of a common, noninvasive cancer will metastasize.

The UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN-WHITEWATER has received a $100,000 grant from the Institute for Study Abroad Foundation to provide 90 students with funds to study abroad. The funds will go mostly to students of color, first-generation students, students with physical disabilities and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students.
