by Associated Press , January 26, 2009

North Carolina State women’s basketball coach Kay Yow died Jan. 24 in Cary, N.C., after a two-decade fight with cancer.  Yow was 66.

Yow announced earlier this month that she would not return this season after she missed four games because of an extremely low energy level. Yow was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987; in her final months, the cancer spread to her liver and bone.

Yow had a career record of 737-344 in 38 years, 34 with N.C. State. She was inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame in 2002. N.C. State postponed yesterday's game at Wake Forest. The Wolfpack's next scheduled game is Thursday at home against Boston College.
