The COMMUNITY COLLEGE OF AURORA (Colo.) has received a $597,000 grant from the Lumina Foundation to establish an organization for business leaders to help promote public policy for two-year colleges.

The CONNECTICUT COMMUNITY COLLEGE SYSTEM has been awarded a $2 MILLION grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to help train and educate students for emerging career fields. Specifically, the Sustainable Operations: Alternative and Renewable (SOAR) Energy Initiative at CCC will benefit from these funds.

FIRST NATIONS DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE (Colo.) has received a $165,000 grant from the Otto Bremer Foundation to fund a tribal asset development project. The funds will go toward strengthening tribal and Native institutions in Minnesota, North Dakota and Wisconsin.

NORTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY (Mass.) has received a $9 MILLION federal research grant to develop new multisensory technology systems for cars and trucks. The sensors will allow for real-time assessment of road and bridge infrastructure across the country.

ST. EDWARD’S UNIVERSITY (Texas) has been awarded a $737,565 grant from the National Science Foundation to establish the Noyce Scholarship Program. The program will recruit and prepare 18 mathematics and science middle and secondary teachers to work in the Austin Independent School District.

TUFTS UNIVERSITY (Mass.) has received a $2.3 MILLION grant from the National Institute of Health’s Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Development to design a childhood obesity prevention program for immigrant children.

The UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA has been awarded a $3.16 MILLION grant from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration to continue protecting the earth from asteroids. The university’s Catalina Sky Survey tracks and identifies objects near the Earth.

The UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO-BOULDER has been awarded $11 MILLION in grants from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration to conduct science and safety investigations on the dusty lunar surface and its atmosphere.
