Professional Appointments

Dr. Shirley Ann Jackson, president of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, has been elected to membership in the National Academy of Engineering, one of the highest honors accorded an engineer. Previously Jackson served as chairwoman of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and a professor of physics at Rutgers University. Jackson earned both a bachelor's degree and a doctorate from MIT.

Marc Barnes, director of major gifts at
Dillard University in New Orleans, is one of three staff members selected to be a Kresge Fellow by the Kresge Foundation. The
program aims to enhance the skills of African American advancement professionals. Barnes earned a bachelor's degree in
marketing from Xavier University.

Dr. Zelema Harris, president of Parkland
College in Illinois, has been elected to the board of directors of the American Council on Education (ACE). She will serve through 2003. Harris earned a bachelor's degree from Prairie View A&M University in Texas and both master's and doctorate degrees in education from the University of Kansas.
Percy R. Luney has been named dean of the new college of law at Florida A&M
University in Orlando. Most recently he was
president of the National Judicial College in Reno, Nev. Luney earned a bachelor's degree in geology from Hamilton College and a juris
doctorate from Harvard University. Classes in the new law school are expected to begin in the fall of 2003.

Dr. Delores ScoTT is the new vice president for student affairs at Virginia Union
University. Previously Scott was associate provost for retention and academic support at Virginia Polytechnic and State University. Scott earned a bachelor's degree from
Virginia Union University, a master's from Virginia State University and a doctorate from Virginia Polytechnic and State University.

Tiffany Verrett has been appointed as the first full-time coordinator of Auburn University's Minority Peer Mentoring Program.
Verrett earned a bachelor's degree from Troy State University and a master's degree in
education with emphasis on college student
personnel from the University of Southern Mississippi.
