Former NC HBCU Leader To Lead North Carolina A&T

by Associated Press and Diverse Staff , May 26, 2009

Dr. Harold L. Martin, a former chancellor of Winston-Salem State University, was named the chancellor of North Carolina A&T State University this past Friday by the University of North Carolina Board of Governors. Martin is currently the University of North Carolina (UNC) system's vice president for academic affairs.

Martin, an alumnus of North Carolina A&T, assumes the school’s chancellorship on June 8. He succeeds Dr. Stanley Battle, who this past February cited family and personal reasons for resigning from the chancellorship. Both North Carolina A&T and Winston-Salem State are historically Black institutions and are part of the 16-campus UNC system.

From 2000 to 2006, Martin served as chancellor at Winston-Salem State University. Martin holds a bachelor’s, and master’s of science degrees in electrical engineering from North Carolina A&T State University, and a Ph.D. from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University
