Coalition Proposes Alternative to Obama Student Loan Reform Plan

“We want to bring our expertise to the table and work in cooperation with the Obama

administration and Congress on this crucial reform, and we believe this proposal is a

positive step forward,” the signatory members of the ASLP student loan community plan wrote in a recent letter to Congress.

The ASLP coalition includes nonprofit, state agencies, stand-alone lenders and loan servicers, consumer banks, and nonprofit, state-based guaranty agencies and secondary markets. Some prominent members are Sallie Mae, SunTrust Bank, Missouri Department of Higher Education, New York State Higher Education Services Corporation and the Florida Department of Education.
