LSU Press Falling Victim to Economy

by Associated Press , July 9, 2009

Categories:

A national organization plans to help develop a new business model for the Louisiana State University Press, the university publishing house widely respected for Pulitzer Prize-winning fiction and poetry and nonfiction chronicling the South’s history and culture.

LSU Press may face closure in light of major state budget cuts to higher education. LSU Chancellor Michael Martin said in May that the press could become a victim of not only the budget cuts, but also a poor national economy and changes in reading habits that have led to the decline of print publications.

Peter Givler, director of the Association of American University Presses, confirmed that the group will help work on a new business model for LSU Press.
