USM Prepares for $2M Budget Cut

Deans from the University
of Southern Mississippi’s
five colleges are submitting $2-million budget cut proposals to the provost.
It’s the first step in the possible elimination of staff, instructors and even
tenured faculty.

According to The Associated Press, the cuts are the
university’s response to an anticipated $10 million to $12 million budget
shortfall for fiscal year 2011. To counteract that shortfall, the university
said it is likely that it will need to make $7.5 million in cuts from academic
programs.
