Enrollment is up at many colleges and universities around the country this academic school year. According to WTHR.com, many college experts cite the recession as a reason saying students realize that a college degree is an important way to get ahead when less jobs are available. Although the state increased financial aid by 5 percent, more people applied, cutting grant funding for both private and state schools. Some institutions had to increase fees to keep up in the down economy. For example, Depauw University in Indiana increased tuition by 4.5 percent. However, this is one of its smallest increases in recent years.
