Creighton University's medical interpreter training program has been established with a two-year $130,000 grant from the state of Nebraska. The program seeks to improve medical care by helping to reduce the number of miscommunications because of language differences.

Elizabeth City State University's Center for Entrepreneurship received a $77,281 grant from the 2001 Kauffman Entrepreneur Internship Program. The grant will fund 14 interns during the year.
Grambling State University's biology department received a $371,000 grant from the National Institutes of Health. The grant will be used to research treatment and prevention of cataracts.

Miami-Dade Community College's new hospitality management program has been awarded a $1.68 million Title V grant from the U.S. Department of Education's Hispanic Serving Institutions Program.

New Jersey Institute of Technology received a $2.5 million, three-year grant from the New Jersey Commission on Higher Education. The grant will be used to enhance industry/student links.

Penn State University's College of Communications received a $250,000 grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. The grant will be used to continue successful minority recruitment.

Saint Augustine's College has been awarded a $7,500 grant from ABC 11 WTVD Eyewitness News. The award will be used to help students succeed in the field of communications.

Yale University scientists have been awarded 14 grants totaling $840,000 from the National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression. The award will be used for psychiatric research.
