Grambling Selects New President

BATON ROUGE, La. — Grambling State University has a new president, and he’s a familiar face with decades of experience at public universities around the country.

Dr. Frank Pogue will be the school’s eighth president, after the University of Louisiana System board unanimously agreed to the appointment Friday.

Pogue had been working for six months as interim president of Grambling, a historically Black university in north central Louisiana. UL System President Randy Moffett called Pogue a strong leader with a proven record of leadership.

“In the short time he has been at Grambling he has brought stability, and it is evident that we should allow him to continue to do that good work,” Dr. Moffett said in a statement.

Pogue was president of Edinboro University in Pennsylvania from 1996 to 2007 and interim president of Chicago State University from 2008 to 2009. Before that, he held a series of administrative jobs at colleges in New York and taught at six colleges and universities.

He takes over from former president Horace Judson, who resigned in October after five years in the job.

Founded in 1901, Grambling has nearly 5,000 students. The school has struggled in past years with accreditation issues.
