The Alamo Community College District (San Antonio) has been awarded a $830,777 "Discovery 4 Higher Education Distance Learning" grant from the state Telecommunications Infrastructure Board. The grant will help create a state-of-the-art system for online education.

California State University at Northridge received a $60,000 gift from software company Sight, Sound and Motion. The gift is making it possible for students to work closely with Lockheed Martin engineers on the design of an unmanned aircraft that can respond to emergency situations on its own. In addition, California State University at San Bernardino received a $3 million gift from the Annenberg Foundation. The gift will support construction of the Indian Wells Center for Educational Excellence at the university's new Palm Desert campus.

Dillard University in New Orleans was awarded $113,245 under the Disadvantaged Minority Health Improvement Act 1990, to continue support for the institution's Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students.

Stanford University in California received a $400 million gift from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation to help build Stanford's endowment for the humanities and sciences for undergraduate education.

The University of Texas at Austin's UTeach program, which guides interested students to and through the teacher certification process in math and science, received a $5 million pledge from National Instruments co-founder and former UT Austin graduateĀ  Jeff Kodosky and his wife, Gail Kodosky.

Winston Salem State University in North Carolina has received a three-year National Aeronautics and Space Administration grant totaling $375,000 to enhance math, science and high-technology programs at the university.
