Professional Appointments

Bill Brown has been named director of the newly established Center for Entrepreneurship at Elizabeth City State University in North Carolina. Brown has practiced public accounting for more than 25 years. Brown  received a bachelor's from Bernard M. Baruch College and a master's from Iona College. He is licensed as a certified public accountant in New York and Virginia.

Virgil E. Ecton has been appointed vice president for university advancement at Howard University in Washington. Ecton most recently served as senior executive vice president of development for the United Negro College Fund. Ecton earned a bachelor's degree from Indiana University and a master's from Xavier University in Cincinnati.

Dr. Nathan Essex has been appointed president of Southwest Tennessee Community College in Memphis, Tenn. Essex, was the school's interim president for 11 months. He earned a bachelor's degree from Alabama A&M University, a master's from Jacksonville State University and a doctorate from the University of Alabama-Tuscaloosa.
Dr. Joe A. Lee has been named president of Alabama State University in Montgomery. Previously, Lee was president at Tougaloo College in Mississippi. Lee earned a bachelor's degree from Talladega College in Alabama and both master's and doctorate degrees from Miami University in Ohio.

Dr. Lee Monroe has been named president of Voorhees College in Denmark, S.C., effective Aug. 31, succeeding Dr. Leonard E. Dawson, who is retiring. Monroe earned a bachelor's degree from Shaw University in Raleigh, N.C., a master's from the University of Cincinnati and a doctorate from Virginia Polytechnic and State University.

Dr. Kevin D. Rome has been named assistant vice chancellor for student life and diversity at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis. Rome earned a bachelor's degree from Morehouse College, a master's from the University of Georgia and a doctorate from the University of Texas at Austin.
