Professional Appointments

Dr. Andrea Barnwell has been named director of the Spelman College Museum of Fine Art. Barnwell is a well-known author, art historian and curator. Her forthcoming book Charles White is the first book in a series of monographs on African American artists edited by David C. Driskell. Barnwell earned a bachelor's in English and art from Spelman and master's and doctorate degrees in art history from Duke University.

Dr. Bernadine M. Lacey has been appointed chair of the nursing department at Prince George's Community College in Maryland. Previously, she was special assistant to the president and founding dean and professor in the school of nursing at Western Michigan University. Lacey earned a bachelor's from Georgetown University, a master's from Howard University and a doctorate in from Columbia University.

Craig Littlepage has been named the new athletics director at the University of Virginia. Previously he was interim athletics director. Littlepage has coached men's basketball at the University of Pennsylvania, Rutgers, Villanova and Yale universities. He earned a bachelor's in economics from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School.

Dr. John Waddell has been selected to become the eighth president of Saint Paul's College in Lawrenceville, Va. Waddell succeeds Dr. Thomas M. Law, who is retiring. Previously, Waddell was president of Allen University in Columbia, S.C. Waddell earned bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of South Carolina and a doctorate in higher education administration from Florida State University.

Treopia Washington has been appointed vice president, strategic partnerships at the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards in Arlington, Va. Previously, she was special assistant to the executive director of the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Washington earned a bachelor's from Hampton University and a master's from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
