Citing Health Reasons, St. Paul’s College President Departs

LAWRENCEVILLE, Va. — The president of St. Paul’s College is leaving the historically Black college in Lawrenceville for medical reasons.

The school announced recently that Eddie N. Moore Jr. is returning to his home in Texas for what it called a long-delayed medical procedure. Named as interim president was Claud Flythe, who came to the college in January and had been employed for 35 years at Virginia State University.

St. Paul’s also announced that Richmond attorney Ashley L. Taylor will advise trustees on the future of the college. Taylor is a former deputy attorney general for Virginia.

St. Paul’s has been beset with challenges, the latest being the denial of its accreditation.

The Southside Virginia college came up about $300,000 short of the $5 million it hoped to raise to prove its financial stability.
