Professional Appointments

Dr. Leroy A. Durant has been named vice president for student development and services at Claflin University in South Carolina. Most recently, he was vice president for student life at Jackson State University. Durant earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Grambling State University and a doctorate from Texas Southern University.

Francena Phillips Jackson has been named director of alumni relations at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland College Park. Jackson has served for 12 years in various project management positions. Jackson earned a bachelor’s from the University of Maryland and a master’s from the University of Baltimore.
 

Dr. Howard C. Johnson is the new executive vice provost for academic affairs at Syracuse University. Previously, he was dean of the graduate school. Johnson earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mathematics from Chicago State University, an additional master’s in mathematics from the University of Illinois and a doctorate in mathematics education from Northwestern University.
Michelle D. Mason has been named associate dean for admissions and student services at Florida International University College of Law. Previously, she was assistant dean at Vermont Law School. Mason earned a bachelor’s in English literature and a juris doctorate from Rutgers University.
 

Joseph Selden has been named assistant dean for multicultural affairs for the College of Communications at Pennsylvania State University. He has served as director of multicultural affairs for the college since 1994. Selden earned a bachelor’s from Oklahoma State University and a master’s from Syracuse University.


Carolyn Webb de Macias has been appointed vice president for external relations at the University of Southern California. She has served as senior associate provost since 1997. Webb de Macias earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from the University of California at Los Angeles.
