Professional Appointments

Dr. Kenneth Goings has been named chairman of the Department of African American and African Studies at Ohio State University. Goings earned a bachelor's degree from Kent State University and master's and doctoral degrees from Princeton University.

Dr. Evelyn Hu-DeHart has been named director of the Center for the Study of Race and Ethnicity in America and professor of history at Brown University. Previously, she was professor and chairwoman of the Department of Ethnic Studies at the University of Colorado-Boulder. She earned a bachelor's from Stanford University and a doctorate from the University of Texas-Austin.

Eldridge W. McMillan has been named the first scholar-in-residence at Atlanta Metropolitan College. McMillan is the retiring president of the Southern Education Foundation and the longest-serving member of the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia. He earned a bachelor's from Clark College and a master's from Columbia University.
Raymond C. Pierce has joined the Cleveland office of Baker & Hostetler as a partner in the Business Group. He will counsel education-related institutions and commercial clients on matters of public policy, compliance and general corporate law. Pierce earned a bachelor's from Syracuse University and a juris doctorate from Case Western Reserve University School of Law.

Dr. barbara ross-lee has been appointed dean of the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine at New York Institute of Technology. Most recently, she was dean of the School of Allied Health and Life Sciences at NYIT. She earned a bachelor's degree from Wayne State University and a doctor of osteopathy degree from Michigan State University.

Dr. Beverly Daniel Tatum has been appointed president of Spelman College in Atlanta. Tatum comes to Spelman from a 13-year career at Mount Holyoke College where she is currently acting president and dean of the college. She earned a bachelor's from Wesleyan University, a master's and a doctorate from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
