Dr. Wayne Branch has been named president of the Community College of Baltimore County-Essex. Previously, he was vice president for student affairs at the Community College of Philadelphia. Branch earned a bachelor's degree in sociology and art from West Virginia State College Institute; and a master's and doctorate degrees in counselor education from the University of Pittsburgh.

Academic

Dr. Houston Baker, noted African American studies scholar and distinguished professor in Duke University's English department, has been named editor of American Literature, the oldest and most prominent academic journal in the field.  Baker, who will serve a five-year term, succeeds Cathy N. Davidson, vice provost for interdisciplinary studies at Duke. Baker earned a bachelor's degree in English, magna cum laude,  from Howard University; and a master's degree in English and a doctorate in British Victorian Literature, both from the University of California-Los Angeles. He also did graduate study at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland.

Dr. Gloria Bonner has been named dean of the college of education and behavioral sciences at Middle Tennessee State University. Before the appointment, she was interim dean of the college. Bonner earned a bachelor's and a master's degree in education, as well as an educational specialist degree, all from Middle Tennessee State University; and a doctorate in education from Tennessee State University.

Dr. Frank W. Hale Jr. has been appointed distinguished university representative and consultant at Ohio State University. He is returning from retirement on a part-time basis with more than 41 years in higher education. His last position was as vice provost and professor emeritus at OSU.  Hale earned a bachelor's degree in communications and political science, and a master's degrees in English, both from the University of Nebraska; and a doctorate in communication and political science from OSU.
Gregory Vincent, Esq., has been named vice provost for campus diversity at Louisiana State University. Most recently, he was assistant vice chancellor for academic affairs and director of the equity and diversity resource center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Vincent earned a bachelor's degree in history and economics from Hobart and William Smith Colleges; and a doctor of jurisprudence degree from the Ohio State University College of Law.
