Professional Appointments

Richard A. Chavolla has been named associate director of the Office of Minorities in Higher Education at the American Council on Education in Washington. A former community liaison officer and assistant dean at Yale University, Chavolla earned a bachelor's from Boston University and a master's from Boston College.


Dr. PonJola Coney has been named senior vice president for health affairs and dean of the medical school at Meharry Medical College in Tennessee. Previously, Coney was a professor and chairwoman of the department of obstetrics and gynecology at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. Coney earned her medical degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center.


Rosalind Fuse-Hall has been named executive assistant to the chancellor at North Carolina Central University in Durham. She received her bachelor's from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a juris doctor degree from Rutgers School of Law in New Jersey. 
John Hall has been elected by the Miami-Dade Community College Foundation Inc. to become a member of the board of directors. Hall is president of Peoples Bank of Commerce in Miami-Dade and Broward counties in southern Florida. Hall earned a bachelor's from Howard University and an MBA from Harvard University.


Dr. James A. Hefner, president of Tennessee State University, has been elected secretary of the board of directors of the American Council on Education. Hefner earned a bachelor's from North Carolina A&T State University, a master's from Atlanta University and a doctorate from the University of Colorado.


Andrew M. Perkins has been appointed assistant vice chancellor of business and finance/facilities at North Carolina A&T State University. Perkins earned a bachelor's from Hampton University, a master's from the University of Wisconsin and a master's from National Defense University.
