New Initiative Encourages American Students To Study in Australia

WASHINGTON
With more than 140,000 Americans studying abroad and Australia serving as the sixth destination of choice for American students, IDP Education Australia has launched a new initiative and resource center to encourage students to study in Australia.
The Australia study abroad initiative offers a specialized service for the more independent American student who is looking for more economical alternatives to the packages currently offered, says Dr. Mitch Leventhal, director of IDP USA/Canada, an independent, not-for-profit organization focusing on international education and development.
"There are many agencies in the USA which offer all-inclusive packages for the prospective study abroad student to Australia. IDP's new non-packaged option gives the students another choice. It will provide advice and reassurance to the independent student without a large service fee. Our Washington office offers student advising, visa information, application and placement services," Leventhal says.
According to Leventhal, research suggests that the number of "independent" students coming to Australia from the United States now outnumber the "packaged arrangement" students.
"Study abroad has become an integral experience for American college students, and an increasing number of institutions have programs which require foreign study. IDP will be working closely with the higher education sector in the United States to support and encourage the choice of Australia as a study destination," Leventhal says.
