College Faculty Experience 4.3 Percent Salary IncreaseWASHINGTON
College faculty overall experienced a 4.3 percent salary increase, according to the 2001-02 Mid-Level Administrative/Professional Salary Survey, a report produced by the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR).
According to the report, the overall median salary increase for all mid-level administrative/professional job types is 4.3 percent at the 962 higher education institutions that responded to the survey both this year and last year.
The median salary increase is highest — 4.4 percent — at baccalaureate institutions and lowest — 3.7 percent — at doctoral and "other" institutions (including specialized institutions and system offices). The median salary increase at two-year institutions is 4.1 percent, followed by 3.9 percent at comprehensive institutions.
The survey presents information about general pay practices, including Fair Labor Standards Act classifications, average annualized percentage increases and salary structures.
The report provides salary data as of Sept. 15, 2001, for 135 mid-level positions at 1,147 higher education institutions: 182 (16 percent) doctoral, 341 (30 percent) comprehensive, 248 (22 percent) baccalaureate, 237 (21 percent) two-year, and 139 (12 percent) system office and specialized.
The data focuses on positions within nine areas: general administration; accounting and finance; information systems; physical plant/security; extracurricular events; external affairs; student services; engineering/research; and medical. It supplements CUPA-HR's Administrative Compensation Survey, which focuses on executive/administrative positions.
