Professional AppointmentsDr. Dwight J. Fennell has been named president of Paul Quinn College in Dallas. Fennell served as interim president for the past year. Fennell earned a bachelor’s from Saint Augustine’s College, master’s degrees from Atlanta University and Florida International University and a doctorate from Florida State University. Mary Ella Graham has been named dean of the School of Nursing at Tennessee State University. Previously she was dean and professor at the College of Nursing of the State University of New York’s Downstate Medical Center. Graham earned a bachelor’s from Long Island University, and master’s and doctoral degrees from Columbia University’s Teacher’s College.Dr. Gary S. May has been selected to serve as executive assistant to the president at Georgia Institute of Technology. May is currently associate chair of faculty development in electrical and computer engineering. May earned a bachelor’s in electrical engineering from Georgia Tech and a doctorate from the University of California at Berkeley.
Tracey L. Phillips has been appointed director of staff development at North Carolina A&T State University. Phillips has served in several positions at A&T since 1994. She earned a bachelor’s from Bennett College (N.C.) and a master’s from A&T. She also is a graduate of the College Business Management Institute at the University of Kentucky.Dr. Henry Ponder has been appointed the 18th president of Talladega College. Ponder had been serving as interim president since October. Previously, he was president of the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education. Ponder earned a bachelor’s from Langston University, a master’s from Oklahoma State University and a doctorate from Ohio State.Dr. Marcelle Willock has been appointed the new dean of the College of Medicine at the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science in Los Angeles. Willock earned a bachelor’s from Howard University, master’s degrees from Teachers College, Columbia University and Boston University and a medical degree from Howard University.
