GrantsĀ  & AwardsDelaware State University has been awarded a $50,000 grant from the DuPont Center for Collaborate Research and Education. The grant will go to the Delaware State University teacher education initiative.Dillard University (La.) received a $300,000 grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to implement an "information literacy" program at the university's Will W. Alexander Library. The program will focus on research tools specific to the needs of academia.Georgetown University has received a $2.2 million grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute to develop, implement and refine a variety of academic initiatives in the biological and biomedical sciences. The grant also will be used to provide outreach in Washington, D.C., to increase the number and quality of students studying sciences.The Study of New Scholars (an outgrowth of the Project on Faculty Appointments) at the Harvard Graduate School of Education (Mass.) has received $1 million to study junior faculty members' satisfaction with their institutions as a place of work. The Ford Foundation and the Atlantic Philanthropies have each contributed $500,000 over a three-year period.New School University's Graduate Faculty of Political and Social Science (N.Y.) hasĀ  received a grant of $300,000 from the Carnegie Corp. for its Journal Donation Project (JDP). The grant will go towards the continuation of the JDP's work in 65 libraries in Russia and the former Soviet Union.North Carolina A&T State University has been awarded $50,000 from the Xerox Corp. to fund scholarships for students in the College of Engineering.North Carolina Central University's biology department has been awarded $475,000 from the National Cancer Institute for a three-year study to foster the development of researchers and student training in cancer control, prevention and detection.
