Bernard E. Anderson Receives Westerfield Award

WASHINGTON

The National Economic Association honored Professor Bernard E. Anderson earlier this month with the 2002-2003 Samuel Z. Westerfield Award at the Allied Social Science Association (ASSA) meetings. The award was presented on Jan. 3 at a luncheon at the Marriott Metro Hotel in Washington.

Anderson, who was assistant secretary for employment standards at the U.S. Department of Labor during the Clinton administration, currently holds the Whitney Young Chair at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. In addition, Anderson has served as managing partner of the Urban Affairs Partnership in Philadelphia and as director of the Rockefeller Foundation’s social sciences division.

The Westerfield Award is named after the distinguished Harvard-trained Black economist and former ambassador to Liberia. Established in 1973, it acknowledges outstanding scholarly achievements and public service by an African American economist.
