Professional Appointment

Michelle Dixon Thompson is the new assistant director of the media relations-news bureau at Bethune-Cookman College in Florida. Previously, she was a registered insurance and investment representative. Thompson holds a bachelor's magna cum laude in mass communications from Bethune-Cookman and a master's in English education from Nova Southeastern University.

Dr. Victor Ukpolo has been appointed assistant vice president for academic affairs at California State University-Los Angeles. Before coming to Cal State, he was on leave from his tenured position as professor of economics at Austin Peay State University so he could serve as the special assistant to the chancellor for academic research for the Tennessee Board of Regents. Ukpolo holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Maryland. He also holds a master's and doctorate, both in economics from American University.

Association

Dr. Leonard E. Dawson, president of Voorhees College in South Carolina, has been re-appointed to serve on the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Capital Financing Advisory Board by U.S. Sec. of Education Richard W. Riley. Dawson holds a bachelor's in English from Morris Brown College, a master's in guidance and pupil administration from Columbia University Teachers College and a doctorate from George Washington University.
