The Information Technology Association of America is convening its sixth annual National IT Workforce Convocation here on May 5. The one-day event brings together business, government and education leaders to discuss and learn ways to strengthen the American IT workforce. In addition, the event highlights effective programs nationwide that are expanding IT education and training opportunities.

Some of the conference tracks include Strengthening the IT Education and Training Pipeline; Diversity in IT; and e-Learning Practices and Trends, according to ITAA officials.

Keynote speakers include Ted Hoff, vice president, Learning, IBM; Jane Hollen, the CIO for Xerox North America, Xerox Corp.; and Mark Milliron, the president and CEO, League for Innovation in the Community Colleges. U.S. Rep. Sherwood Boehlert, R-N.Y., chairman of the House Committee on Science has been invited to address the convocation. Among the sponsors of the event are the Microsoft Corp., the IBM Corp., Peoplesoft, and the Oracle Corp.

The ITAA is the nation’s leading trade association representing the broad spectrum of the U.S. IT industry. With the market in 2001 spending more than $800 billion, IT is considered one of America’s fastest growing industries, encompassing computers, software, telecommunications products and services, Internet and online services, systems integration and professional services companies.
