Grants & AwardsAlbany State University (Ga.) received a $500,000 grant from the Goizueta Foundation to establish a scholarship endowment in the College of Education. Colorado State University received a $1.5 million donation from the Bohemian Foundation of Fort Collins, a private family organization that supports community projects that help youth. The gift will endow a chair in mathematics in honor of retiring CSU President Albert Yates. Johnson C. Smith University (N.C.) received a $250,000 grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to conduct a three-year pilot study on the development of information literacy skills in students.
Marshall University (W.Va.) received a $100,000 grant from Verizon West Virginia to expand a distance-learning effort to rural schools in southern counties. Mt. San Antonio College (Texas) received a 2003 Hewlett-Packard Community College Pre-Engineering/Computer Science Grant Award that includes a $101,000 donation of computer equipment and software for students and faculty. North Carolina A&T State University received $30,000 from General Dynamics Network Systems to create scholarships for the university’s Diversity in Engineering Program. In addition, the Exelon Corp. recently awarded the university’s College of Engineering $25,000. The funds will be used to create scholarships for engineering students. Stanford University (Calif.) received a $6 million gift from philanthropists George and Ronya Kozmetsky to establish the Kozmetsky Global Collaboratory at Stanford. The donation will establish a program linking researchers at Stanford and the University of Texas to conduct research on how technology can be used to enhance global prosperity.
