Baltimore Community College To Offer Online Law Enforcement Degree
By Ronald Roach

Baltimore

Baltimore City Community College (BCCC) will offer an associate's degree in law enforcement entirely online beginning this fall. Online courses will include Introduction to Criminal Justice, Fundamentals of Law Enforcement, People's Law, Organizational Dynamics, and Investigative Principles and Concepts, and others. All course requirements, both the criminal justice and general education classes, can be completed in a two-year time frame.

BCCC's associate's of applied science degree in law enforcement (63-68 credits) prepares graduates to enter local, state and federal police and other criminal justice agencies. It also provides continuing education and skills upgrade for law enforcement, correctional and criminal justice professionals already in the field. This online initiative is being spearheaded by assistant professor and acting coordinator of BCCC's criminal justice program Jay Zumbrun.

"With the busy schedules and shift work of law enforcement officers and other criminal justice professionals, I thought it was important to provide another learning format for them to obtain college credit and better position themselves to excel in their respective agencies," Zumbrun says.

"The online format also gives students who are interested in pursuing criminal justice careers additional flexibility to learn and further their education."
