Emory University’s School of Medicine (Ga.) received a $2 million donation from J.B. Fuqua, a philanthropist and Atlanta businessman. The gift will be used to fund a faculty chair position in late-life depression.

The Houston Community College System received a $417,963 Skills Development Grant from the Texas Workforce Commission to train 290 new or upgraded jobs such as certified nurses aides, patient care assistants, and phlebotomists and admissions specialists.

Marygrove College (Mich.) received $48,000 from The Whitney Fund to support its multidisciplinary, community-focused, arts outreach program, Onstage! The grant will support scholarships, guest artists, instructional materials and administrative services through December 2004.

Medgar Evers College (N.Y.) received $176,724 to continue operating its College Opportunity to Prepare for Employment Support program. In addition, the college also received $1,480,873 to continue operating its Perfect Opportunity for Individual Skills and Educational Development for Success program. Both grants came from the New York City Human Resources Administration and the City University of New York.

Mt. San Antonio College (Calif.) was awarded a three-year $568,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to develop an associate degree chemical laboratory technician program.

The National Urban League (N.Y.) received a $500,000 contribution from Enterprise Rent-A-Car. The donation is part of a $2 million commitment from Enterprise to support various Urban League initiatives such as the Black Executive Exchange Program (BEEP), the Annual Conference and the Equal Opportunity Day Awards Dinner.
