Dr. Michael A. Battle is the new president of the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta. Previously, he was vice president for student affairs at Chicago State University. Battle earned a bachelor’s degree from Trinity College, a master of divinity degree from Duke University and a doctor of ministry degree from Howard University.

Dr. Richard Cosby has been named director of athletics at Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Ala. He earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education and elementary education from Delta State University, a master’s in social work administration from the University of Tennessee and a doctorate in sports administration and physical education from the Union Institute for Advanced Studies.

Dr. Bernard Franklin has been named senior vice president for governance and membership for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) effective Nov. 1. He earned a bachelor’s in religion from Simpson College, a master’s in education from Western Maryland College and a doctorate in education from Columbia University Teachers College.
Dr. Cynthia Jackson Hammond has joined the College of Education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte as assistant dean. Previously, she served as dean of the College of Education and Human Performance at Delaware State University. Jackson Hammond earned her bachelor’s and doctorate in education from Grambling State University and a master’s in education from the University of Louisiana in Monroe.
Dr. Melvin L. Oliver has been appointed dean of social sciences at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Most recently, he served as vice president for asset building and community development at the Ford Foundation. He received a bachelor’s in sociology from William Penn College, and a master’s and doctorate in sociology from Washington University in St. Louis.
Hezekiah N. Simmons has been named assistant vice president for administrative services at Monroe Community College in Rochester, N.Y. Previously, he was president and CEO of New Horizons Computer Learning Center. Simmons holds a bachelor’s from Johnson C. Smith University and a master’s degree from Harvard Business School.
