Professional Appointments

Ulysses Bell has been named vice president for institutional advancement at Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Bell has more than 13 years fund-raising and management experience. He earned a bachelor's degree from Elizabeth City State University, a master's from Columbia University and a law degree from North Carolina Central University.
Dr. Michael T. Nettles has joined the Education Testing Service as the executive director of policy studies and the research center. Nettles is a noted education policy expert and professor of education at the University of Michigan. Nettles earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Tennessee, and received his master's and doctorate from Iowa State University.
Dr. Rufus Glasper is the new chancellor of the Maricopa Community Colleges in Arizona. Previously, he was the executive vice chancellor for human resources and administration. Glasper earned a bachelor's from Luther College in Iowa, a master's from Northern Illinois University and a doctorate from the University of Arizona.
Leonard Pitts Jr. has been named the Scripps Howard Visiting Professional in the School of Journalism and Communications at Hampton University in Virginia for the 2004 spring semester. He is a syndicated columnist with the Miami Herald. Pitts received a bachelor's degree from the University of Southern California.
Dr. Raymond Jones has been appointed vice president for campus life at Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont, Calif. Prior to his appointment, he was director of the Academic Success Center. Jones earned bachelor's and master's degrees in communication disorders and a second master's and doctorate from the California School of Professional Psychology.
Dr. Linda L. Thomas-Buchanan has been named the associate dean of students at Bucknell University in Pennsylvania. Previously, she was the director of the Black Cultural Center and assistant professor at Berea College. Thomas-Buchanan earned a bachelor's degree from Tougaloo College and a master's degree and doctorate from Washington State University.
