Grants & AwardsThe Community College of Baltimore County received a $3 million grant from the National Science Foundation to establish the Maryland Center for Manufacturing Educational Excellence. Community College of Philadelphia has been awarded more than $1.6 million by the U.S. Department of Education to strengthen student information services over the next five years. Fairfield University (Conn.) was awarded $100,000 in financial aid from the William T. Morris Foundation to provide scholarship assistance for students based on academic merit and financial need. In addition, Fairfield’s Community Scholars Program has received a $45,000 gift from the William Pitt Foundation. The gift will be used to support the education of four Fairfield students. Morgan State University (Md.) received a $26,500 grant from the Lockheed Martin Corp. to support a pre-engineering summer program in the Clarence Mitchell School of Engineering.Texas Southern University’s Jesse H. Jones School of Business received a $500,000 grant from the JPMorgan Chase Foundation to fund the creation of a financial education center to inform consumers about personal finance. In addition, the business school received a $46,000 grant from the El Paso Corp. to support continuous quality and improvement for the graduate program. Youngstown State University’s (Ohio) Center for Working-Class Studies received $350,000 from the Ford Foundation to expand on some of its projects such as an oral history program and the establishment of an international organization in working-class studies.
