African American Online Guide Book Released

African American Online Guide Book ReleasedTOLEDO, Ohio
For those researching African American history and culture on the Internet, a recently published book may provide guidance as to how to get started. Dr. Abdul Alkalimat, a sociology and Africana studies professor at the University of Toledo has authored The African American Experience in Cyberspace: A Resource Guide to the Best Web Sites on Black Culture and History, which has been recently published by Pluto Press of Herndon, Va.
“This important new guide to the African American experience in cyberspace fills this need for people in all areas of Black Studies and Multiculturalism. There is no search engine list that can match the quality of sites to be found in this book,” according to Pluto Press.
The director of the Africana studies department at the University of Toledo, Alkalimat has been active in developing online resources in Black studies. He moderates the popular African American Studies discussion list, H-Afro-Am, and has created and edits “Malcolm X: A Research Site” as well as “eBlack Studies.”
In the book, Alkalimat provides a directory to the “best Web sites that deal with the African American Experience.” The first section examines African American history, and the second section focuses on topics covering society and culture. Each chapter has a brief essay, extensive annotation on the five best sites for each topic, and a short bibliography.
The book is designed so that it can be taught at the high-school or college level. Visit  <www.africa.utoledo.edu/faculty/US_flyer_BULK.pdf> for more information on the book.
