Grants & AwardsThe Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation awarded a total of $25 million in grants to eight U.S. universities that pledged to make entrepreneurship education available across campus. The selected universities receiving multi-million dollar grants are: Florida International University, $3 million; Howard University, $3.1 million; University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, $4.5 million; University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, $3.5 million; University of Rochester, $3.5 million; University of Texas-El Paso, $2 million; Wake Forest University, $2.16 million; and Washington University in St. Louis, $3 million.
Texas College, in partnership with The University of Texas Health Center at Tyler was recently awarded a $1.1 million grant to establish the TC/UTHCT Project EXPORT Center. EXPORT stands for Centers of Excellence in Partnerships for Community Outreach, Research on Health Disparities and Training. The center will receive $371,329 per year for three years. The EXPORT Center will focus its research, outreach and educational training efforts to improve the diagnosis and treatment of people with diabetes in medically underserved populations in East Texas.
The Community College of Baltimore County, Dundalk received a $220,000 per year four-year Upward Bound grant to fund intensive academic support for a total of 50 students in the three area high schools. The grant will support the establishment of a cadre of tutors in English literature and composition, foreign language, mathematics, computer technology and science as well as cultural activities and enrichment in music and art. The University of Maryland- Eastern Shore received a grant of $25,000 from Winchester Homes for the university's construction management technology program and to help create career opportunities for interns as well as new employees with a special emphasis on diverse groups.
 
The University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health received a $6 million grant from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. The money will be used to establish the school as the coordinating center in the six-center Bariatric Surgery Clinical Research Consortium.
