Procter & Gamble Boosts Annual UNCF Contribution To $1.1 MillionFAIRFAX, Va.
In order to expand educational opportunities for the more than 65,000 students the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) currently supports, Cincinnati-based Procter & Gamble has developed programs in an effort to increase its annual contribution to $1.1 million.
"We, at Procter & Gamble, are proud to support the United Negro College Fund and its mission in communities across the country because this is an organization that is making a difference for countless young African Americans," said A.G. Lafley, P&G chairman and chief executive officer, who also sits on the UNCF board of directors.
Beginning this month, P&G and its family of brands intend to enhance its support of UNCF through the sponsorship of several regional special events, the establishment of a "Back-to-School" national marketing campaign, and co-sponsorship of  "An Evening of Stars — 25th Anniversary Tribute to Lou Rawls," which aired on television earlier this month. The values of these new brand partnerships, combined with current corporate donations, reflect P&G's efforts to increase its annual contributions to UNCF to $1.1 million.
Dr. William H. Gray, III, UNCF's president and chief executive officer, said: "Procter & Gamble is a long-standing partner of UNCF and has consistently shown its dedication and commitment to improving educational opportunities for talented young men and women. P&G's leadership and determination should serve as an example to individuals and corporations everywhere."
In addition to supporting regional and national events, P&G currently supports multiple UNCF initiatives, including the Technology Enhancement Capital Campaign (TECC), which is aimed at strengthening the technological infrastructures of 39 historically Black colleges and universities.
