Dr. Bernita Berry is the new chair of the department of social work at Savannah State University. Berry most recently served as an associate professor of social work and director of social work at Prairie View A&M University. She earned a bachelor's degree from Morris Brown College, a master's from Atlanta University and a doctorate in sociology from Kent State University.

Dr. Evelyn Castro has been appointed dean of the school of liberal arts and education at Medgar Evers College in New York. Previously, she was vice president of the Leadership Academy at the New York City department of education. Castro earned a bachelor's degree from Morgan State University, a master's from Bank Street College, an Ed.M. in education, and a doctorate, both from Columbia University.

Glenn L. French has been appointed executive director of the Center for Real Estate Development and Management, a part of the undergraduate business program at Saint Augustine's College in North Carolina. French is an authority in the property management industry and is on the faculty of IREM, an institute of the National Association of Realtors.

Harvey Hollins III has been appointed vice president for government affairs at Wayne State University in Michigan. Hollins comes to Wayne State from an eight-year post at the American Association of Retired Persons. He earned a bachelor's degree in liberal arts from Kalamazoo College and a master's in public policy from the University of Michigan.

Dr. Kent J. Smith Jr. has been named dean of students at Auburn University in Alabama. Smith comes to AU from Case Western Reserve University in Ohio, where he was director of the Office of Multicultural Affairs. He earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree from Southern University. He earned a doctorate in education and human resource studies from Colorado State University.

Dr. Ereka R. Williams has been named assistant professor in the department of curriculum and instruction at North Carolina A&T Technical State University. Williams was a former public schoolteacher in North Carolina. She earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree both from Fayetteville State University, and a doctorate from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro.
